Every energy source has tradeoffs. Students compare them all, then get to work building with them.
In Alternate Energy, students start by comparing the pros and cons of all major energy sources. Then the building begins. They experiment with solar cells and circuits to construct a solar boat, design a wind machine and explore the engineering factors that shape how it performs, and build a tidal generator.
The program connects directly to the environment around the Boathouse, where tidal movement on Tillamook Bay is a constant and visible force.
Available any time of year and a good fit for physical science, engineering, and environmental science classes.
