Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (UROV)

Students design it, build it, wire it, and send it into the water. Then they see what it finds.

The UROV program is one of the most ambitious things students can do at the Boathouse. Working in groups, they design and build an underwater remotely operated vehicle that moves in three dimensions, install cameras and collecting equipment, and put it to work exploring the seafloor and pier pilings right here in Tillamook Bay.

The electronics are real. Students explore batteries, electromagnets, motors, and generators, learn to create and solder their own waterproof circuits, and build something that actually functions in the water. It is a full engineering challenge from start to finish.

This program runs December through March and takes four or more hours.
