A living classroom, right at the end of the pier. This one is hard to forget.
Crabbing is part of life on Tillamook Bay. In this program, students learn to do it properly, while building real scientific knowledge about the animals they are pulling from the water. Behavior, life history, and the biology of invasive European Green Crab are all covered, alongside hands-on citizen science measuring that contributes to ongoing research.
Dissection is available for groups that want to go deeper into anatomy, and never required for those that do not. For groups that want the full experience, on-site facilities allow students to cook and eat what they harvest, after the scientific data has been recorded. It is the kind of moment that stays with a student long after the field trip is over.
The program rounds out with an engineering activity on boat stability. Topics are taught at the level of your group, from kindergarten through college.
